Giving the chance under the right circumstances,  I’m using my confidence and assurance of this http://www.jamhoopslimited.com sponsorship.  I’ve done reach on these hoops and as a hooper, dancer, teacher and performer I look to use quality hoops who hold thier connection and that’s what I’ve seen from http://www.jamhoopslimited.com.  I know this would be a great fit for me as this continually sprial dance keeps me moving and growing. I’ve got some really serious plans for myself and really need a great company such as JAMhoops Limited would really help excel my practice, grow and potential opportunities around the corner.  Watch my video for some fun tracing work, followed with some great bloopers and snow fall.

Flippy Floppy Roll: http://youtu.be/fIBf-N8G4D4

Newest tutorial, although it’s taken me a minute to get it on here. Exciting things happen in this behind the back toss, that gives the receiving hand the chance to floppy fold the hoop up and send it horizontally across the body. Have fun and enjoy. 馃檪

Hoop Mother’s Journey

Standard

My goodness, I’ve been blessed to be the mother of a one child, for almost two years now. They say time flies and it sure has. While you can hoop while pregnant, I slacked off right before her birth. My husband found it weird and I was not comfortable enough to keep up my practice. Which made me wonder what would happen after she was born, of course all the new mom questions filtered my friends, facebook and family. I really wondered how I could get back to hooping practice and how my daughter would allow me to fit this in? How would my hooping grow as she grew?

At first my practice was easier then I thought, newborns for all thier cuteness, don’t do much but sleep, eat and well you know. Once are routine came into the picture, hooping was back on my list. The deal was that when I could I would get in at least an hour a day. Id break out my hoop while she slept, played in the swing, walker, and pak n play. Saftey zones were setup for that just in case loss of control on my end. Be assured no child was harmed. 馃檪 I have small space to hoop in,so i learned how much control can go into your practice. It was great, I was grooving while sweet baby was doing her baby thing.

While celebrating my daughter’s milestones outloud, (crawling, walking, learning and talking) my practice was speaking at its own volume. I started the journey to become certified, wanting to learn how to share the power of hoopdance and still be the best for my little one. She learned to walk as I started working on shoulder hooping. Whew! She got it way before I did. (still learning second current to be fluid) I must say that there are days where I couldn’t get to my hoop practice and have that time to let go and relax. As mom’s are time can be gone before we know it. I’m know I’m not alone when I say that moms hardly get time to breath before we called back to fix this, wipe that or give love(i will always stop whatever I’m doing for loves). I’ve complied some tips that I use to make sure that when I do find that time, its utilized for the best practice I can bring.

* You don’t have to get all your practice in at once. Its perfectly fine to get it in five to ten, or 15 mins blocks. Try making a playlist for those time frames, so you can get the most out of your practice time *

* Commit to your practice, really devulge in what your learning, let go, have fun and breath*

*Hooping at times when your child sleeps, hangs in the swing, walker or pak n play. As they grow encourage thier own play with the hoop. Don’t pressure them to play with it, yet give praises to all they do. Love is the greatest gift you can give yourself and your child. *

*Safe zone hooping in the house. If your able to hoop in the house, be aware of what’s around you and where your child is at all times. If you thought dropping your hoop was bad(I encourage you to drop it), wait till your child busts your groove. Its not a bad thing at all, giving attention where attention is due.*

*If you can’t get your daily practice in, don’t get down on yourself.  Its okay, just hit it again tommorow. You could find a weekly jam or start one yourself, so you can be around other hoopers that will praise and welcome you to share your wins and losses, vice *

How does this transfer to those who I’m blessed to teach and outreach too? Comes back to the seed of intention, plant it, water it, give it love, light and your open connection. Flowers don’t bloom as soon as you plant them, be kind and wait. Love helps us grow.Never judging, always encouraging growth. For my daughter may not see hoopdance they way I do, I’m going to give her all the tools I have to give her my best, so she can be her best. I’ll close with saying thank you and yes my daughter has some sick moves with the hoop at the age of almost 2. She can pick it up and drop it. Try it sometime, its refreshing.

PlayThink Hoopdance Workshops

Standard

The hoop journey never ends, just like the circular shape our hoops holds. My practice is coming up on its fourth anniversary and until just a few weeks ago, I’d never been to a workshop. Sounds strange doesn’t it, well it’s not for me,  I live in the middle of Missouri.  Not to say we don’t have hoopers, because we do, it’s just not many teach or know how big the hooping community really is. While I hold a BodyHoops certification,  I knew for my personal practice and teaching I would have to evolve more. I did some research to find hoop workshops closer to me. There was a Hooping.org article that talked about various flow festivals. This is where I found Playthink Movement and Flow Arts Festival, in the heart of Kentucky.  Paige Hankla and her amazing team had just what I wanted, I signed up to volunteer, because giving back was the perfect opportunity to grow even more. Now let’s talk about the amazing women who’s workshops I got to take.

Sati Flow is a flow artist with all kinds of props and an energy that vibrates. I’d first seen her demo video, blown away, I was even more excited that she would be teaching at PlayThink.  We met waiting for a yoga class, the connection was instant, yet all I knew was this sweet souls name is Megan. After saving her water (funny story) it wasn’t until I seen her playing in the fire dome with her levitation wand that it clicked. That’s when we made a bigger connection, discovering how each other was. This event started my hooping geeking session for the rest of the weekend. The next morning, filled with all kinds of love, I took her workshop. It was all about chest breaks and the various ways to break direction in your hoop. It was so much fun, due to Megan’s pure uplifting spirit.  Everyone there had so much fun, it was just the start. You can check out more of Sati Flow at Sati Flow.

When you hear of Holistic Flow, what comes to mind? Charity Edwards of Hoopbug.com, brought what felt to me a much softer and more mindful hoopdance approach. Just feeling yourself, the movements you make and the surrounding. I had some blindfolded hooping before, yet I’d never been though a guided flow session blindfolded either. It allows you to let go, giving you the feeling of really being in tune with your body and it’s movements. Hoopers tend to get so focused on the things around them, that they forget to dance and have fun. Charity then led us though some yoga to get ourselves more involved with ourselves. We gave energy to our loved ones, those who need healed and to ourselves.  I’d never felt more awake then in that moment. Charity also taught the fire safety class, which was actually very informing. The things you learn when you leave home.

Pretty much, I felt like and still do like a hoop geek. Not only did I get to hoop with Sati Flow, Charity Edwards, I happen to take two workshops with Bonnie Juice MacDougall.  I’d read her hooping.org articles, her way with words, had a connection for me. Expressions in Hoopdance was something I was familiar with, yet I’d never taken a workshop on it. We learned to be more the just a hooper, we are dancers, who are meant to more, give flight to our bodies. Was such a learning experience on how to move more and be less stiff. When. It came to her shoulder hooping workshop,  she had us show what we knew to get a better feel. As we all gather back in to hear her speak, she asked who had been to Hoop Path?  Pretty sure everyone but me had. To which I reply, I’m HoopPathish? Her smile was affirming to say the least! We learned more ways to dance while shoulder hooping and how we can move. She had told me somethings about me dance that blew me away. Im ever thankful. If you want to take Bonnie’s workshops check out HavenHoopdance to see where she will be next.

Thank you is the biggest form of gratitude I could ever give to PlayThink and for me to volunteer at such a transformational event. I never imaged how much the weekend would take shape and love on me, only for me to send it back 10 fold. Thank you to Megan, Charity and Bonnie for being apart of such a loving event. You brought your hooplove, hoopjoy and hoopdance experience, most of all I have hoopthankfulness for you ladies. In closing if you want your dance to evolve,  take a workshop, do research. What do you want to learn, who’s teaching style reflects on how you can keep in your personal flow. I’m not going to say don’t watch videos, they can be great tools. If you can be in person,  not only do you feel more connected to your teacher, you can ask direct questions and be around other hoopdancers.  I’m looking foward to many more workshops to come.

Grow baby grow

Wow, today has had so many ups and downs with my hoop journey. I did my rough draft to my first workshop, got mixed reviews, yet I’m greatful for the words of enlightenment.  Then found out my Y class got canceled due to poor attendance.  My time was what I’m going to belive is the issue. I went to recruit memebers yet it seemed that they were off put by the hoop. I’ve failed more times then I care to admit, but I know failing is part of the process and for that I’m greatful. Which is what comes down to my day getting better. My friend has been sending me music and without even knowing I recorded my practice session with the newest song he sent me. The song is called Celestial Dancer, it’s what I needed for to feel and let go of all the negative thoughts from the day. Then I get a lovely reminder about my volunteering for an upcoming event.
Play Think Movement Festival
Talk about a flow arts collaboration and creating beautiful energy with like minds. I was sold the moment I searched the page, when I found out you can volunteer. It called to me, I’ve always loved helping others and doing humbling work for the greater cause. Now I need my readers to help me get there. I’ve started a fundraiser page to help pay for my expenses to go volunteer at this Movement Festival.  Anyone who donates and I get there email in the confirmation will get written thank you notes and photos of me at the event. If you donate $50.00 or more you will get a short film highlighting my experience at the PlayThink! Movement Festival. Here’s the link to my fundraiser page.
Fund my Volunteer Trip
Once again thank you to my readers and followers, you keep me coming back and creating.  I would be ever thankful to go and be a helping hand at this festival. It’s one that’s close enough to drive, has a beautiful vibe, great location and lots of growth for experience.  Thanks again.
Much Love

Hoopie Day!

Standard

http:// http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=em-upload_owner&v=o3oWpfalEwQ

Hello there. Hope everyone is having a great day so far. The warm weather has came and went here out in the sticks. The link above is to my newest video where I put together some of my work. It was so weird to put together video of my hooping. I record at least once a week for my learning puposes. This video is for a chickfox hoops sponsorship for 2014. This is a chance for this hoop maker to have a hooper be there spokes person. Ive been hooping for almost 4 years now and been teaching for 1. My journey hasnt been easy taken a complete unknown and trying to show your community how hooping can really impact your life. For my hooping has grown leaps and bounds. I couldnt ever imagen the things I do. It opens my creative being and givea me a way to be expressive, driven, grateful and happy. Ive said time and time again that this hoop changes you. I want to bring that change to those who are looking for a creative outlet. Ive grown with my teaching, after being certified I got more into social media and made contacts with fellow hoopers that are just doing thier thing and sharing the love. Taught me to have self practice and to be intune with the students that are being taught. How to approach the dark side of hooping. It can be rough to get hooping in your community believe me ive been told no numerous times. Tried to organize an event, promoted it and had some interest yet, no one showed up. Was I upset, yeah for a minute, I wanted to know where I failed. Then I learned Im not going to fail as long as I keep trying. Cant have no in your heart, like Joe Dirt said. You will have people and fellow hoopers that may never understand your drive and fire. Thats perfect because you will not understand thiers either. We all have our own paths, we just need to encourage and support each other to help grow our art to our community. As always thank you so much for reading, please give my video a look, let me know what you think. Check out the other videos as well. http://www.facebook.com/chickfoxhoops. Be sure to tell um Nicki sent you. Also if you want to submit a video you have 9 days left. Best of luck to everyone.  Here is the link to Chickfox page as well. There some great prizes in this sponsorship with some other amazing artists. Im in for the hoop love baby!

Aside

“How I’m I not being myself?”, famous quote from the movie I<3 Huckab猫es. Things around us prevent us from discovering who we truely are. Feelings, hurt, anger, love, joy and so on. The truth is we are scared to know the true us and for others to s猫e our true self. Most of my personal stuggles where my dire need to feel accepted, loved and wanted. I wanted to be the best, for I wanted everyone to like me. I hated confrontations, was always wanting to please everyone around me. Now that I'm older, wiser, attunative, and generally l贸ok for all lifes peek holes. Ive come to s猫e that Im the one who needs to be me. For my bad moments or g贸od, enjoy every wake of my being. Love with an open heart for we are all creatures of the Earth. See myself as the strong independent person I'm. I believe that to know yourself is to look in and say what do i like, how does this fuel me, when are times that I was happy and how to conitually create that, who are my closest relationships. For relationships are the bridges for sustianable living. Yes its true the only person who can make you happy is you, yet its also the people in you live that affect you as well. Do those people feel your energy and send it back in the lovingest of matters. I hope they do for you. The love co帽nection is a driving life force that brings deeper understand of you, your family, friends, co-workers, and etc. For when you dont see these connections it affects you because your acting blind, so take off your guard and let love in for yourself. Self love is not being vain or obessed with your body image. Its about loving the things about your intellegent beautiful souls, the fact you could talk to trees, say the not so right things and roll on, fighting back when the stress comes on. Telling yourself heck ya I put my best foot foward and while I got all these things that g贸od be seen as bad, Ill take them for good. As always thanks for reading.

Be yourself.
